    We will need 15 volunteers on Saturday, February 7 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at The Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

    This project will involve assisting the kennel hands to clean and prep the facility for the day, organize food and get the animals fed. The last 45 minutes of the project will be playing and interacting with the cats and dogs.

    Please wear closed toes shoes and arrive promptly at 8:30am to get things started.

  • January Activity – Bike Ride

    About Flatwoods:

    Best known for its seven-mile paved loop road, which serves as a multiuse trail, Flatwoods Park provides a welcome getaway from Tampa’s developed landscape. The Morris Bridge well field is located within the park, and well houses can be observed along the trail. A two-mile paved extension connects Bruce B. Downs Boulevard with the loop road.     What to bring:

    Bike (check tire inflation, brakes, etc. before the ride)
    Bike Helmet
    Water/Gatorade
    Sunscreen
    Protein bar (or similar) to fuel up during the ride
    Phone – in case you get separated from the group

    Where to meet:

    We’ll determine which entrance to meet at a little closer to the event date. We want to see how many people plan on attending and pick the entrance that makes the most sense for the size of the crowd.

    We’ll meet at Fairmount Elementary School in St. Petersburg. The projects we’ll work on will likely include:

    Weeding, Pruning, Harvesting, Planting, Trellis Construction, Compost Maintenance/Construction, General Garden Maintenance

    Please bring along with you:

    1. Water Bottle
    2. Sunscreen/Hat/Sunglasses
    3. Closed-Toe Shoes
    4. Bug Spray
    5. Personal Gardening Gear (if you have any) like gloves, stool an tools
    6 Composting materials, especially dried leaves, if you have any

    Edible Peace Patch is a not-for-profit with the mission to eliminate poverty as a factor in educational success and diet-related health issues. They are building a model farm-to-school food system that will provide educational support and training while delivering fresh local food to school cafeterias. They currently operate six schoolyard gardens in south St. Petersburg. Balance Tampa Bay will spend the morning helping cultivate and tend the garden at one of these schools.
